Abstract

The success of the adoption of life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) within industry will depend largely on market conditions, which will drive its use, and the overcoming of current barriers present within the field. This chapter identifies some of the most important factors that could account for the adoption and mainstreaming rate of an LCSA methodology. At the centre of this adoption process, it is important to understand the business value that could be generated through LCSA application and the various roles that can enable this process. The chapter defines this system through creating a market potential framework which outlines drivers, barriers, applications and roles and their interactions. It aims to generate insight into the leverage points and recommendations for LCSA adoption and provide some concrete solutions for the progress of LCSA in practical use.
