Tourist behavior during disease outbreaks and wellbeing

International relevant literature shows that while there is a lot of concrete data on the socio-economic consequences of previous disease outbreaks, there is no specific concrete data or estimate of the psychological impact of individuals during and after the disease outbreaks process (SARS, MERS, ZİKA VIRUS, EVD, COVID-19 et al.). In tourism, which has a dynamic process, tourists are the main factor that is most affected by the changes caused by disease outbreaks. In this context, this chapter examines the factors affecting tourist behavior in disease outbreaks process from past to present (soscial isolation, hijyen, perception of health risk, quarantina etc. ) and changes in well-being (physiological, psychological, sociological, mental). The factors that occur during the disease outbreaks process are seen as both a push travel motivation and a constraint factor for tourists. The decrease of the well-being of individuals due to the increase of negative emotions such as depression, anxiety leads to an increase in tourism mobility after the disease outbreaks process. In addition, changing tourist preferences are an effective factor for tourism businesses in terms of tourism mobility during this change process. Possibilities for tourism management, marketing and applications will be discussed in the light of comparative data to be obtained.
