Abstract

Chapter 13 provides a trans-systemic overview of collective actions in relation to EU competition law. First, it presents the economics of collective litigation from the perspective of the European regulatory pattern. Second, it explores the regulatory purpose of collective actions in Europe and demonstrates how this shapes the European paradigm. Third, it offers a brief overview of the European models of collective actions. Fourth, it provides an overview of the general features of European (i.e., EU Member States) collective actions along key regulatory issues. Finally, it provides a general assessment and makes proposals for future development in this area.
