Abstract

In Part IV, we discuss the potential social effects of autonomous vehicles (AVs). While previous parts have focused on the technological, economic, and legal aspects of AVs, in this part we argue that the social implications of AVs have been largely overlooked. Chapter 12 discusses the social phenomena of queues. How queues emerge and how humans deal with them (that is, swarm intelligence). The chapter also highlights how the emergence of new technology might impact social behavior (for example, looking at self-serving kiosks).
