Abstract

Medical anthropology draws on a wide range of perspectives and approaches to understand human health and well-being and their interactions with medical systems. This chapter begins with an exploration of traditional methods in medical and anthropology, using specific examples to show how we as anthropologists engage with people in a range of health settings. The second part of the chapter explores emergent methods, which may add to the information gained through participant observation or be used when there is not sufficient time to conduct long term ethnographic research.
