Abstract

What are the fundamental requirements for a “better world”? Who says that access needs must only be practical? Why can’t they be poetic also? In this narrative piece, Mia Boonen imagines a world where there is no hierarchy of needs, and where demanding joy and artistry isn’t seen as frivolous. She imagines a world that gives her more than an unpoetic bare minimum. She draws on her own experience as a young disabled theatre maker to articulate her expectation for more, as both an artist and an advocate.
