Abstract

Birhan Erkutlu and Tugba Günal are artists who left Intanbul to settle in Alakir Valley, a region of protected - in principle - forests and rivers. They were caught back by “development†: projects for damming the Valley. They mobilized not only local people, but also urbans in artistic circles with which they were familiar. The fight lasted eight tense years, and ended successfully in so far aa the projects of dams were cancelled. However protecting nature is an endless fight against ever renewed threats.
