Abstract

This chapter discusses the effects that aging has on federal spending on entitlement programs, the implications for the overall debt burden, and the effects of aging on interest rates and productivity, and how these factors affect the long-term budget outlook. It examines some potential policy responses to aging, in particular the role that increased labor force participation may play.
