Abstract

Chapter 12 provides a reflection on the political economy of carbon markets in the jurisdictions analysed in chapters 9 - 11 and makes suggestions for improving carbon markets’ political feasibility. The chapter also advances politico-economy thinking on market-based climate policy instruments choice by proposing an embedded Public Choice (ePC) approach, which overcomes some limitations of traditional Public Choice and thus increases its empirical relevance.
