Abstract

This chapter addresses the personal willingness for deviant behavior by committing and concealing financial crime. A number of explanations for individual convenience exist in the literature. One prominent explanation is the availability of neutralization techniques, which offenders use to reduce and eliminate guilt feeling. Another explanation is lack of self-control. Sliding on the slippery slope is a third explanation often presented. Other explanations include learning from others by differential association and negative life events.
