Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries

Global inequalities between countries have declined since the 1990s. However, inequality has risen within countries over the past two decades. Moreover, the rise in inequality has not been uniform. Inequality is multidimensional. The most common inequalities are income inequality, wealth inequality and inequality of opportunity (socioeconomic). All forms of inequalities challenge eradicating extreme poverty and food security. Studies have stated that all other Sustainable Development Goals cannot be achieved without addressing disparities. Inequality between countries is expected to rise for the first time in a generation because of COVID-19. Reducing income inequality and increasing economic growth help reduce food insecurity, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Governments and key stakeholders should create more equitable societies by protecting the most vulnerable groups.
