Abstract

This chapter introduces one of the most popular software in ABM research, NetLogo, by looking into its three-tab system: Interface, Info, and Code. The chapter then describes the three definitional aspects of ABM: agents, environment, and mechanisms. Agents are described through three characteristics: autonomy, interaction, and malleability. The environment is identified as physical and non-physical simulation space. Finally, four basic mechanisms are defined: behavioral, interactional, time-dependent, and developmental.
