Abstract

This chapter is a case study examination of a partnership between a major bank and charitable organisation, supported by federal and state governments, to address financial exclusion in Australia. The chapter will outline the social and economic context within which the partnership exists, including a summary of existing research into financial exclusion in Australia, an outline of options for individuals experiencing financial exclusion to access credit, and the regulatory environment governing access. The chapter will then examine the partnership itself, the motivations and roles of each party, and the programs and products they provide. The chapter also identifies four key areas of challenge and opportunity for the partnership going forward.
