Abstract

Chapter 4 outlines an 'ideal type' or organising framework for a research process involving reflexive practices, that involves seven elements. The first element describes the initial characterisation of the research idea. The second element involves the grounding of a potential project in literature. The third element is concerned with the identification of the context(s) in which a study can be conducted. In the fourth element, choices about data - how it is identified, delimited and captured - are considered. Approaches to analysis comprise the fifth element. In the sixth element the process of reconnecting to literature to develop a contribution is discussed. The final element of the research process that is considered is the necessity of engaging in and reacting to debate.
