Abstract

The majority of research on terrorism is taking place outside of academia, carried out by government and private sector analysts. This chapter provides a detailed overview of research practices in the private sector. The chapter outlines how the authors approach decision maker-focused research and ethical safeguards in a client-centric industry. Within this they address the methodologies and process utilised to produce the highest quality rapid response research. Within the chapter they emphasise the importance in bringing in people from diverse backgrounds to enhance the work produced, alongside the importance of thorough risk assessment and risk mitigation processes.
