Abstract

The last chapter of this book is about how to put the citizen at the centre of the energy transition. We discuss this by answering two questions. First, why did we start this new paradigm? Some citizens feel left behind while others want to accelerate the energy transition. The new paradigm is an answer to these concerns. It increases opportunities for households to benefit from the energy transition. Second, how is this change of paradigm being implemented? New individual and collective consumer rights through energy communities have been introduced. The actors that are expected to enable the new paradigm are TSOs, DSOs, retailers and aggregators. The chapter ends with a conclusion, in which we summarize our main points.
