Abstract

The contributions in this Handbook show the complexity of the green economy in a variety of ways. At the conceptual and theoretical level, the concept remains contested and, in many ways, unclear. Its overlaps with the related ideas of sustainable development and green growth remain areas of significant debate. Equally, the concept of the green economy is being deployed across a huge variety of industries and, more broadly, dimensions of economic activity. In drawing this book to a close, it is therefore impossible and indeed undesirable for us to seek to impose a sense of full coherence on research on the green economy overall. However, based on the various contributions in different parts of this book, we would argue that it is possible to draw out a few concluding issues and themes, and also to generate a set of avenues for future research.
