Abstract

A snapshot of my 20 year research journey with older athletes is captured in this chapter. I explain why I wanted to examine the perspectives and experiences of older people who were competing in sport and discuss how my findings were both fascinating and revealing at the individual and societal levels. I describe my post-structural theoretical framework and qualitative methodological approach, as well as the key social issues and controversies associated with the phenomenon of older people competing in sport. I conclude by highlighting the significance of my research and offering recommendations for future policy and practice.
