Making an argument

Abstract

Scientific writing is all about making a fact-based, logically consistent and in the end convincing case. You describe to the reader why you approach the research question the way you do; why your selected methodology and theoretical guidance seem sensible; why your material is relevant. And above all, you make sure your proposed way of stringing these things together makes logical sense. This chapter discusses things like theory, method, operationalisation and evidence/data - and how to use these ingredients to build a case in a systematic fashion.
