Abstract

A generic EIA process is explained along with a generic EIA teaching curriculum identified through literature review. The eight steps in a generic EIA process are screening, scoping, prediction, evaluation, mitigation, review, approval decision and follow-up. Accounts of university EIA curricula and training course manuals that teach this generic EIA process are reviewed. Other types of impact assessment teaching are identified including specialist techniques and knowledge along with specific forms of impact assessment targeting issues such as social impacts, health, human rights and ecosystem services assessment.
