Free universities as academic commons

Abstract

As emancipatory spaces of learning, free universities articulate a critical response to the commodification of higher education and the enclosure of knowledge. Grounded in the principles of commons, free universities across the world support alternative forms of educational praxis in terms of access to knowledge, the organization of labour process, structures of collective governance and community building.
