Chinese transnational diaspora entrepreneurship and its impact on Chinas economic development and the pathways leading to Europe: viewpoints from Hungary to Germany

Abstract

Chinese transnational diaspora and overseas networks have been central in bridging China to Western markets and facilitating the Chinese economic development. There are several historical waves of Chinese diaspora that have created multifaceted entrepreneurial and economic ties across the world. Yet, little is known about the role of particular countries that have created migration corridors for Chinese entrepreneurial migrants to enter and establish companies in Europe. Chinese transnational diaspora entrepreneurs (TDE) are not limited to one host country, many of them experience multiple migrations. In recent past, Hungary offered the opportunity for visa free travel that enabled them to realize entrepreneurial aspirations in Europe, Germany being one of the European follow-up destinations. This illustrates the importance of diaspora networks, home country connections, visa programs and migration corridors in development of entrepreneurial diasporas and transnational businesses. The paper highlights the particularly significant role of transnational home ties in Chinese TDE.
