Abstract

The chapter reviews several key perspectives relevant to understanding the relationship between innovation, consumption and everyday life, highlighting some relevant insights and potential avenues for further research on sustainable innovation. Questions addressed include: Why are consumption and everyday life important when thinking about sustainable innovation? Which approaches and concepts have been influential in studying these phenomena? Key developments and areas of debate related to concepts of ‘domestication’, ‘systems’ and ‘modes of provision’, ‘social practice’ and ‘the everyday’ are discussed. The chapter ends by offering some suggestions for promising avenues of research at the intersection between sustainable innovation, consumption and everyday life.
