Abstract

This chapter summarises and assesses Australia’s experience of membership of the OECD, focusing on: accession and the experience of membership in the early years; the varying experiences of differing departments with the OECD over time; the value of the OECD for policy learning and policy capacity. It concludes with a brief examination of the likely future of Australia and the OECD, and argues that its membership has enabled Australia as a middle power to achieve a greater degree of access to, and influence upon, international decision making than would otherwise have been the case.
