Do scientific approaches lead to innovative social entrepreneurial ventures? The relationship between fitness equipment and stages of life

Abstract

Nowadays fitness equipment is a representative tool which is used in its various forms in almost every age of life, and a common resource inside uncountable contexts worldwide. The aim of this systematic review is to provide a comprehensive and overall analysis of the current state of the art on fitness equipment and each lifespan faced in scientific literature. This version of scientific draft, available until now, could lead to new social forms of entrepreneurship in the field of sports. Three databases were utilised: ISI (Web of Science), Scopus, and SportDiscus. The selected key words exposed about 103 articles that were published between 1985 and 2018. The studies were categorised chronologically, by journal, by country / geographical area, and by content. Has emerged that academic contributions mostly embrace: application environments (leisure / sports facilities, home and outdoor fitness amenities, and special categories), creation / featuring, and diseases / injuries. Due to ageing societies, further investigations and social entrepreneurship paths need to pay more attention on the elderly category and its fitness equipment settings.
