Abstract

The importance of University spin-offs (USOs) to society is through innovation capacity which contributes to growth nationally and regionally and has been studied for decades. This book’s focus on the relationships between USOs and regional development builds on a variety of differing perspectives, conceptual and methodologies. This first chapter positions the topic of USOs and regional development within historical, political and geographical contexts.
