Recuadro 2: La trilogía imposible

Abstract

La trilogía imposible, o trilema monetario, es un principio fundamental en finanzas internacionales. Establece que un país no puede alcanzar simultáneamente tres objetivos: Libre movilidad de capitales, tipo de cambio fijo y autonomía monetaria. Según Villamizar y Taboada, la trilogía imposible es una herramienta esencial para diseñar políticas monetarias y cambiarias realistas. Los países deben priorizar objetivos según sus necesidades y contexto económico, entendiendo que no pueden cumplir los tres simultáneamente sin comprometer la estabilidad económica.
