Abstract

En el período que cubre este capítulo, 1923-1934, se dieron acontecimientos y procesos que resultaron cruciales para el desarrollo económico del país. Se estudian los eventos que llevaron a que la apertura del Banco de la República que seria para enero de 1924 se adelantara 6 meses gracias a las crisis del Banco López y la amenaza de que esta crisis se extendiera a otros bancos bogotanos llevo a que el profesor Edwin W. Kemmerer le propusiera al Presidente Pedro Nel Ospina que se hiciera la apertura inmediata del Banco Emisor. También se estudia la política monetaria entre 1923 y 1934, tomando primero los años del patrón oro (1923-1931) y luego los de la recuperación económica (1932-1934) bajo un régimen de billetes inconvertibles.
