Abstract

"La Regeneración" es uno de los periodos más controvertidos de la historia nacional; durante esos años se dieron cambios trascendentales en la estructura política y económica del país. En este capítulo se discute la introducción del curso forzoso en 1886 y se pone de relieve cómo el papel moneda fue un recurso fiscal de carácter temporal. A partir de una serie de tasas de interés de los bancos bogotanos, con base en los datos suministrados por periódicos de la época intentamos explicar la evolución de la tasa de interés real. Por último, se analiza la controversia tanto reciente como de la época, sobre la supuesta causalidad entre las exportaciones de café y la evolución de la tasa de cambio.
