Abstract

En 1820 se hablaba de la emisión de billetes para que hicieran las veces de monedas y se arreglara la hacienda nacional, pero, ante la falta de un banco de emisión en Colombia el Congreso General autorizo al Gobierno para que emitiera papel moneda. El 4 de julio de 1821 se expidió el decreto mediante el cual ordeno al Vicepresidente de Cundinamarca emitir doscientos mil pesos en libranzas de seis, doce, dieciocho y veinticuatro pesos (6, 12, 18 y 24), teniendo como respaldo lo que produjeran las salinas de Zipaquirá, Nemocón y Tausa. La redacción de estos billetes sería esta: "Páguese en las salinas de Zipaquirá, Nemocón y Tausa seis pesos de sal al que presentare esta (lo mismo las de los otros valores)"
