Abstract

Este capítulo se divide en tres partes: La primera estudia la evolución de la política monetaria entre 1946 y 1951 cuando el Banco de la República permitió una exagerada expansión del crédito bancario. La segunda detalla la reforma del Banco de la República por medio del Decreto 756 de abril de 1951. Dicha reforma, dotó al banco central de nuevos instrumentos para la conducción de la política monetaria y le dio un decidido impulso al crédito de fomento. Por último, en la tercera parte se estudia el período 1952-1954, cuando la economía pudo desenvolverse con holgura, debido a los altos precios internacionales del café y a la estabilidad macroeconómica que prevaleció.
