Tránsito hacia la educación terciaria en Uruguay

Abstract

El presente documento de trabajo busca identificar los factores que explican las diferentes trayectorias desde el egreso de la educación media básica en Uruguay, en particular, si los jóvenes continúan sus estudios, y si esto se ve afectado por eventos como la emancipación del hogar, la tenencia de hijos, y el ingreso al mundo del trabajo. Para ello se utilizará un modelo logit que considere el inicio o no de estudios superiores para aquellos estudiantes que han finalizado la primera etapa de la educación media. Los datos utilizados provienen de una encuesta no periódica que se realiza a jóvenes entre 12 y 29 años de edad (Encuesta Nacional de Adolescencia y Juventud, ENAJ 2013). Lo interesante de esta encuesta es que es posible identificar diversos hitos en las trayectorias educativas de los jóvenes. Además, esta encuesta está asociada a la Encuesta Continua de Hogares (ECH) que recoge información complementaria del hogar donde vive el joven. Se considerarán en el análisis diversas variables individuales (asistencia a preescolar, repetición, hijos, trabajo), familiares (educación de los padres, emancipación del hogar) y contextuales (características del centro educativo).
