Abstract

Das Buch befasst sich mit der Macht der Sprache und ihrer Bedeutung für die Politik seit den 1970er-Jahren. Damals häuften sich Bezeichnungsrevolutionen und Bedeutungsverschiebungen, die von einer veränderten Sicht auf die Welt zeugten. Auf welche Begriffe brachten die Zeitgenossen die neue Wirklichkeit? Welche politischen Handlungsimperative leiteten sie daraus ab? Die Beiträge vermessen erstmals diese semantischen Umbrüche und ergründen ihre gesellschaftliche und politische Bedeutung am Beispiel der Bundesrepublik und der USA. Das Buch liefert wichtige Anregungen zur Diskussion um die jüngere Vergangenheit als Vorgeschichte unserer Gegenwart. Ariane Leendertz ist Leiterin der Forschungsgruppe "Ökonomisierung des Sozialen und gesellschaftliche Komplexität" am MPIfG in Köln. Wencke Meteling ist Akademische Rätin auf Zeit am Seminar für Neuere Geschichte der Universität Marburg.
