Abstract

Innovation gilt als der Schlüssel zu Wirtschaftswachstum und in der modernen Ökonomie nimmt der Entrepreneur dabei die herausragende Rolle ein. Mit der Lissabon-Agenda 2000 wurde für die Europäische Union das Ziel gesetzt, der weltweit wettbewerbsfähigste und dynamischste wissensbasierte Wirtschaftsraum zu werden. Weil Investitionen in Wissen eine notwendige, aber keine hinreichende Bedingung für Wirtschaftswachstum sind, will die EU im Wesentlichen die unternehmerische Initiative als Grundvoraussetzung für Innovation und Wachstum fördern. Speziell infolge der Banken- und Staatsschuldenkrise sieht Europa erneut Handlungsbedarf und postuliert das Ziel, den "Unternehmergeist" neu zu beleben. Die vorliegende IWAnalyse stellt die theoretischen Grundlagen zum Verständnis der Rolle des Entrepreneurs in der Volkswirtschaft dar. Ferner werden die Determinanten von Entrepreneurship diskutiert und abschließend Handlungsempfehlungen formuliert.
