Abstract

Die Geschichte der MPG von der Gründung 1948 bis zum Ende der Amtszeit ihres sechsten Präsidenten, Hubert Markl, 2002 umfassend erzählt. Als eine Geschichte, die eng mit der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und der rasanten internationalen Entwicklung von Wissenschaft und Technologie in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts verwoben ist. Als eine Geschichte, die die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Wissenschaft, Technik, Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft erkennbar werden lässt und die zugleich deutlich macht, welcher Ort der Geschichte einer Forschungsorganisation in einer Zeitgeschichte der Bundesrepublik zukommt, die sich den Einsichten der Wissenschaftsgeschichte in diese Zusammenhänge nicht verschließt.
