Abstract

At its 97th conference, organised by Prognoscentret AB in Stockholm on 11 June 2024, Euroconstruct presented the summer forecast on the development of the European construction markets. After a decline in total construction output in the Euroconstruct 19 area in 2023, a sharper decline is forecast on average for 2024. Regional differences remain strong, with room for growth in several European countries such as Ireland, Poland and Portugal. Nevertheless, 12 of the 19 Euroconstruct countries, i.e., the majority, are expected to see a decline in total construction investment in 2024. Dampening factors include the continued rise in interest rates and high national budget deficits. Both are seen by the members of the network as clear obstacles to European construction activity. The Euroconstruct Country Report provides detailed information on construction market trends and fundamentals in each of the 19 Euroconstruct member countries until 2026. The forecasts and analysis are presented at country level and are based on a comparable, harmonised data set for the main construction sectors and indicators. The macroeconomic framework is also included. With contributions from Anne-Sophie Alsif, Anders Bjerre, Mohammed Chaudhri, Antonio Coimbra, Ludwig Dorffmeister, Josep R. Fontana, David Frič, János Gáspár, Roch-Eloi Grivet, Paul Groot, Annette Hughes, Michael Klien, Radovan Kostelník, Nathalie Kouassi, Martin Kyed, Lasse Lundqvist, Max de Lange, Vladimír Lenko, Jean-Pierre Liebaert, Nejra Macic, Pascal Marlier, Antonio Mura, Mårten Pappila, Markku Riihimäki, Radislav Semenov, Stefanie Siegrist, Mariusz Sochacki, Antonella Stemperini, Mercedes Tascedda, Ludvig Uggla and Michael Weingärtler.
