Abstract

This project was part of the WIFO-led Framework Contract and provided one of the background studies for the European Competitiveness Report 2013. It was conducted in cooperation with Idea, ZEW and NIW. The EU Commission considers Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) a critical factor for maintaining competitiveness in manufacturing, stimulating growth by offering new routes for technological innovation and opening up new markets. This study employed a value chain approach to analyse the competitiveness of the EU in the global production of KETs-based products at a disaggregate level.
