Abstract

Die österreichische Wirtschaft wuchs zu Beginn des Jahres 2014 weiterhin nur schwach. Das Bruttoinlandsprodukt expandierte gemäß Schnellschätzung des WIFO im I. Quartal um 0,3% nach +1,3% im IV. Quartal 2013. Dennoch hielt die Expansion der Beschäftigung an (I. Quartal +0,9%, II. Quartal +0,8%), jedoch reichte diese Steigerung nicht aus, um die Zunahme des Arbeitskräfteangebotes zu absorbieren. Die Zahl der Arbeitslosen stieg somit im Vorjahresvergleich um 9,5% bzw. 14,7%. Das regionale Konjunkturmuster war uneinheitlich: Während die Sachgüterproduktion vom Anziehen des Warenexports im I. Quartal 2014 profitierte (+0,8%), stagnierten die Einzelhandelsumsätze aufgrund der schwachen Entwicklung des Konsums. Die Nächtigungszahlen im Wintertourismus sanken (Jänner bis April 2014 –3,3%), insbesondere in den westlichen Bundesländern.
