Abstract
This monograph is intended for academicians, researchers, extension officers, practitioners, students, and farmers who are and will be promoting good practices and technologies in agroforestry to adapt to climate change. Agroforestry has been practiced in the Philippines for several decades now, and several studies have already been conducted in this field. With the increased attention on climate change and its projected impacts on upland and lowland farmers and their livelihood, the potential of agroforestry to help farmers cope with climate change is slowly being recognized. However, what researchers and practitioners lack is a knowledge base where majority (if not all) of what is already known about agroforestry systems and practices can be found. Moreover, the field lacks a “one-stop shop†that discusses how agroforestry can help farmers cope with climate change and which practices or systems are best suited to certain climatic and environmental conditions. This monograph discusses the challenges posed by the combined effects of environmental degradation due to inappropriate land use practices and the impacts of climate change. It then provides an overview of the range of existing agroforestry systems, practices, and activities that may be considered as climate change adaptation measures, while addressing the issues of natural resource degradation.
