Historias sumergidas. Hacia la protección del patrimonio cultural subacuático en Latinoamérica

Abstract

El patrimonio cultural subacuático es de central importancia por la información histórica que contiene. Los vestigios que reposan en las profundidades del mar permiten reconstruir hechos históricos, mejorar el conocimiento de las costumbres y estilo de vida de las sociedades de tiempos pasados, así como aprender de las técnicas constructivas navales de otras épocas. Fundamentalmente, es una fuente de documentación de invaluable relevancia no sólo para los colombianos, sino para la humanidad en su conjunto. En esa medida, las acciones orientadas hacia el patrimonio cultural subacuático deben propender prioritariamente por la investigación científica, particularmente desde la arqueología subacuática.
