Tomás Quintero/Thomas Farmer. Informes del espía de la República de Colombia en la Corte de Fernando VII (1825-1830)

Abstract

Durante seis años las autoridades revolucionarias de Colombia recibieron vía Londres detallados informes de cuanto acontecía en la España de Fernando VII suscritos por Thomas Farmer, inglés y comerciante de profesión. Detrás de aquel nombre se escondía Tomás Quintero, un venezolano llegado a la Península en 1815 en compañía de su protector, el arzobispo de Caracas. A pesar de que desde los años cincuenta del siglo pasado se estableció la verdadera identidad del agente confidencial y se conoció su importante labor, hasta ahora no existe investigación alguna sobre el personaje. Para reparar esta injusticia, en el presente volumen se reproducen más de un centenar de informes que no sólo ofrecen una visión muy particular del conflicto independentista, sino que constituyen, además, una fuente extraordinaria sobre la España de la llamada Década Ominosa.
