Abstract

El Área de Demografía y Estudios de Población, del Centro de Investigaciones sobre Dinámica Social –CIDS– de la Universidad Externado de Colombia, definió como objetivo de una de sus Líneas estratégicas de investigación el análisis de los procesos migratorios en Colombia. Aunque la migración constituye un elemento central en la determinación del crecimiento, volumen y composición de la población, este fenómeno no había recibido la misma atención que la mortalidad o la fecundidad por parte de los investigadores y los organismos estatales. Hoy, esta variable cobra cada vez mayor importancia, en la medida en que el crecimiento natural de la población se ha reducido y seguirá reduciéndose en el futuro próximo, de manera que los cambios poblacionales serán decisivamente determinados por el comportamiento migratorio.
