Abstract

En este libro, originalmente presentado por la CEPAL a los Estados miembros, en ocasión del trigésimo tercer período de sesiones de la Comisión (Brasilia, 2010), se postula que la igualdad debe ser el principio ético, normativo primordial y el objetivo último del desarrollo. Esto es especialmente válido para nuestra región que se distingue por ser la más desigual del orbe. Situar la igualdad en el centro implica una ruptura con el paradigma económico que ha prevalecido en la región durante al menos tres décadas. Implica igualar para crecer y crecer para igualar. Para ello se requiere de un cambio estructural orientado a cerrar brechas sociales y productivas críticas en el que converjan lo económico, lo productivo, lo social, lo ambiental, en aras de un desarrollo sostenible.
