La República Popular China y América Latina y el Caribe: hacia una nueva fase en el vínculo económico y comercial

Abstract

En este documento se examina la evolución reciente del comercio entre China y América Latina y el Caribe en términos de países, sectores y productos, así como la inversión extranjera directa (IED) china en la región. Destaca en dicho análisis el papel que China ha asumido en los últimos años como principal fuente de crecimiento de las exportaciones de América Latina y el Caribe, incluso en el contexto de la fuerte desaceleración que sufrieron en 2009. Se ratifica además el carácter esencialmente interindustrial del comercio entre la región y China, en virtud del cual las exportaciones chinas están compuestas principalmente de bienes manufacturados, en tanto las de América Latina y el Caribe son, sobre todo, materias primas. Esto dificulta tanto el potencial de las alianzas empresariales sinolatinoamericanas como la inserción más eficaz de los países de la región en las cadenas productivas de Asia y el Pacífico, que tienen un carácter cada vez más intraindustrial.
