Abstract
AbstractThis book focuses on the development and challenges that competition policy faces in Latin American countries, particularly in Central America and México. Half of the countries in Central America have only very recently enacted their competition laws and created their competition agencies, while they all face, together with Mexico, considerable difficulties in effectively enforcing their anti-trust legal framework. Thus, the principle aim of this book is to analyze the market distortions in that region -specially in the telecommunications and banking sectors- as well as the legal and institutional competition instruments governments rely on and those that could be developed to confront such distortions. Competition advocacy and regional cooperation efforts seem an essential complement to the successful endeavour of competition policy.
