Aglomeraciones mineras y desarrollo local en América Latina

Abstract

La singularidad de este libro radica en la aplicación de los conceptos de la teoría de aglomeraciones (clusters); al análisis de la industria minera en América Latina. La investigación revela que la ventaja competitiva en la minería, al igual que en otras industrias, es determinada en última instancia por la capacidad de generar conocimientos y producir innovaciones. En este sentido, los estudios de caso tienen la característica especial de concentrarse en la generación y difusión de conocimientos en las aglomeraciones mineras. En América Latina es donde la mayoría de las aglomeraciones -si no todas- acusan su principal debilidad. Así pues, el enfoque utilizado en el presente libro permite concluir que la minería sólo será capaz de contribuir al desarrollo sostenible local si se fortalecen las instituciones necesarias para el proceso de aprendizaje local.
