Abstract

El propósito de este documento de trabajo es explorar la cuestión de las políticas territoriales desde la perspectiva de qué es lo mejor para alcanzar los objetivos nacionales de desarrollo. Las estrategias nacionales apuntan a aumentar el crecimiento económico, reducir la pobreza y mejorar el bienestar de un segmento amplio de la sociedad. Este documento de trabajo está organizado de la siguiente manera: a. El capítulo 1 detalla las tendencias de urbanización a nivel mundial en el contexto del desempeño económico y las dinámicas regionales. b. El capítulo 2 describe las tendencias de urbanización más destacadas en América Latina, incluidas las dinámicas de expansión demográfica, económica y física, así como los desafíos de gobernabilidad. El capítulo 3 subraya cómo el desarrollo urbano y el crecimiento económico están estrictamente entrelazados con la geografía del comercio en América Latina. Finalmente, el capítulo 4 se concentra en los problemas de política pública de cara a la Conferencia.
