Crecimiento inclusivo en las ciudades: retos y oportunidades

Abstract

En el ámbito global se suman diariamente 180.000 nuevos habitantes a las ciudades. Para 2050, se espera un total de 3.500 millones de habitantes urbanos nuevos, lo que significa la duplicación del número de habitantes urbanos. Para entender la dinámica local de cada ciudad es necesario identificar cómo la desigualdad está afectando su desempeño económico y cuáles son los principales obstáculos para la inclusión social. En ese sentido, el papel que juegan los gobiernos locales en el desarrollo de los países es fundamental, ya que se encuentran en un lugar central para participar en el diseño e implementación de políticas que abran el camino hacia una sociedad más sostenible y que ponga a los ciudadanos como protagonistas del desarrollo. El enfoque de CAF es apoyar de cerca la labor de las autoridades con herramientas prácticas que faciliten su gestión. Atendiendo a la necesidad de generar una línea de conocimiento sobre los principales aspectos que influyen en el desarrollo urbano sostenible, en el marco de la construcción de la Nueva Agenda Urbana, CAF presenta este documento que da luces sobre cómo generar mayor crecimiento, desde políticas públicas que catalizan la inclusión sostenida de todos los ciudadanos a los espacios productivos de nuestras ciudades.
