Abstract

Analiza los orígenes del ferrocarril en el mundo, su avance y aportes a la consolidación de los grandes Estados. En contraparte, examina la decadencia de este medio de transporte en la mayoría de los países suramericanos, e invita a la reflexión de la posibilidad de reconstruir sistemas ferroviarios y contar con una red regional gracias a las experiencias exitosas actuales, adoptando una estrategia para la movilidad sostenible que promueva el crecimiento económico, la equidad social y la sostenibilidad ambiental.
