Esquemas de implantación de tecnologías inteligentes de transporte en América Latina: estudios de casos y recomendaciones

Abstract

La construcción de nueva infraestructura de transporte con frecuencia tiene altos costos económicos, sociales y ambientales. Para disminuir estos costos, las autoridades de transporte buscan formas más eficientes de operar la infraestructura existente, con el fin de atender la demanda, sin necesidad de construir nueva infraestructura. Para ello los sistemas inteligentes de transporte (SIT) juegan un papel fundamental. Estos sistemas aplican tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones, en conjunto con estrategias de gestión de una manera integrada, para planear y operar sistemas de transporte. Los SIT permiten mejorar la eficiencia, la sostenibilidad, la seguridad y el desempeño de estos sistemas. El objetivo del estudio es generar recomendaciones prácticas sobre tecnologías y esquemas de operación público privadas, que generen un buen valor agregado a las ciudades de América Latina.
